Gateways and accessories: why the system uses LoRa

The trap needs to report, not stream. That is exactly what LoRa is built for: JERRY CATCH and JERRY BAIT need neither Wi-Fi nor a SIM card on site, nor any access from the customer. A dedicated wireless network on site

LoRa transmits at low frequency, which gives it long range and good penetration: the signal gets through walls where other wireless standards fail.

JERRY CATCH and JERRY BAIT have neither Wi-Fi nor a SIM card and do not need reception either. Cellular or Wi-Fi is only needed where the gateway is located. How many gateways a site needs depends on its size and building structure.

Dedicated network, cellular or Wi-Fi only at the gateway

The system brings its own wireless network and runs independently of the network on site. The traps do not need reception: basement, production hall, behind reinforced concrete. Only the gateway connects to the internet.

Through walls instead of around them

868 MHz gets through concrete and shelving where 2.4 GHz wireless has long since given up.

Everything for the first site

The Starter Set includes a gateway, SIM card, traps and LoRa field tester, so your first site is ready to go. As a pest controller, you can see the prices directly in the shop after registering.

01

What you need to get started

A gateway, the traps and the app. The gateway connects via cellular, and the SIM card is included in the Starter Set. A LoRa field tester is also included: use it to check whether the signal reaches the planned spot before the devices are installed, instead of finding out afterwards.

02

Where a second gateway makes sense

The range depends on the building: reinforced concrete, cold stores and deep basement corridors cost meters. The rule of thumb from practice is not the floor area but the line of sight: the more solid walls between trap and gateway, the more likely a second device is worthwhile. The field tester answers that in ten minutes.

Technical details

What really happens in the hall

Wireless standardLoRaWAN
Frequency band868 MHz (Europe), license-free and free of charge
TopologyStar: each trap transmits directly to the gateway, no device depends on another
Rangeup to 300 m under good conditions, less in halls with a lot of steel and concrete
Number of gatewaysdepends on the site, we check this in advance during project planning
Cellular or Wi-Fi requiredonly where the gateway is located; the traps transmit to it via LoRa and need no reception themselves
Gateway connectionvia cellular, SIM card included in the Starter Set; without SIM via existing Wi-Fi with the mini gateway (up to 450 m²)
Gateway power supplyPlug-in power supply 9-24 V DC or PoE via the network cable: the gateway stays plugged in permanently and has no battery
In the trapno SIM, no Wi-Fi access, no network account: the trap transmits into the gateway's own LoRa network

Why not Wi-Fi or one SIM per trap?

  • One SIM per trap means ongoing cellular costs for every single device, every month, over the entire term. With 20, 50 or 200 monitoring points, this cost grows with every station and never pays off in the long run.
  • The gateway bundles the connection: one connection to the internet, many traps behind it, with one or more gateways depending on the site. Each additional station costs no additional cellular contract.
  • The customer's Wi-Fi rarely reaches the far corner of the warehouse and needs IT approval. The dedicated LoRa network needs neither.
